Break Free From Alcohol (EMDR)
What if the reason you’re stuck isn’t about willpower at all?
Alcohol might have started as something you could take or leave. But somewhere along the way, it became harder to manage. Maybe you’re drinking more than you planned, reaching for it when stress hits, or finding it difficult to stop once you start.
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and it’s not a character flaw. For many people, patterns around alcohol aren’t just habits. They’re connected to deeper emotional experiences, stress responses, or memories that the conscious mind alone can’t reach or resolve.
How EMDR Works With Alcohol
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy originally developed to treat trauma, now widely used across a range of presentations including problematic patterns with alcohol.
Unlike talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to analyse or talk through your experiences in detail. Instead, it helps the brain process and resolve the unresolved material driving automatic responses, including reaching for alcohol in moments of stress, discomfort, or emotional pain.
You remain fully awake and alert throughout. I guide you through a structured process at a pace that feels manageable for you.
How It Differs From Hypnotherapy
Both hypnotherapy and EMDR work below the surface of conscious willpower, but they do so in different ways. EMDR is particularly suited to people whose drinking is connected to past experiences, trauma, anxiety, or emotional patterns that feel difficult to shift through insight or effort alone.
Not sure which approach is right for you? I’m happy to talk it through. Some clients work with both. Learn more about hypnotherapy for alcohol.
What to Expect
Every person’s experience with EMDR is different. I work with you to understand the specific patterns, triggers, and experiences connected to your drinking before beginning any EMDR processing work.
Sessions are available in person in Hervey Bay and online across Australia. Find out more about what to expect from an EMDR session.
